| Rare 1881 Octagonal postmark | | This item appears to be a handwritten check from Twitty and Culpepper from 1881 for $49.02. I need some help reading this old style writing, but it appears to say:
"Dear Sirs: You will please pay when presented ?? old favor ?? Rush ?? for $49.02 & oblige ??" Twitty & Culpepper January 10, 1881 | |

| Using the Scotts Specialized Catalog, this envelope and printed stamp have been identified as a U82, a form of USPS postal envelope which was only made in 1870 and 1871, placing the date estimate in that range.

 | Another interesting envelope - with a return address of "Powell & Wilson, dealers in dry goods, groceries, and general merchandise". We don't know the exact date of this but the postmark is nearly identical to the 1870 one above.
